We spoke to Director of PEUGEOT SPORT, Bruno Famin, to find out more about this new addition to the award-winning 308 range:
“When we were asked to develop the 308 GTi by PEUGEOT SPORT, we approached it as we would any of the competition cars we work on.
“Of course, starting with the 308, we had an excellent basis. It was the 2014 European Car of the Year and it handles very well. Our job was to build on that and make a car that’s even more engaging to drive.
“When PEUGEOT SPORT works on a racing car, we investigate various areas. Weight is very important and so is the efficiency of the engine.
“We look at how the chassis behaves with any extra power we give it. Plus, ensure that the brakes can cope with any performance improvements we make.
“With the 308 GTi by PEUGEOT SPORT we targeted all those areas and I’m very happy with the results.
“The engine has two power outputs: 250hp and 270hp. When we began working on that engine we thought 270hp from a 1.6-litre would be quite difficult. But the result is a car with the best power-to-weight ratio in its segment, a 0-62mph time of six seconds, and a top speed limited to 155mph.
“When PEUGEOT SPORT works on a competition car, we’re really only concerned with reliability and performance and never mind the comfort of the driver! With a road car it’s very different.
“With the 308 GTi PEUGEOT SPORT we’ve produced a car that does 47.1mpg and has CO2 emissions of 139g/km. We’ve even designed PEUGEOT SPORT bucket seats for it.
“New suspension makes the car sit 11mm closer to the ground. There’s also a wider track, two front spoilers and re-designed door sills that make it look like a real performance car.
“But I think where people will really appreciate the 308 GTi by PEUGEOT SPORT from is the driver’s seat.”
